When I first decided to come forward about my diagnosis of bipolar II, people thought I was crazy. Ironic? Luckily for me, and potentially you, I have never been good at following society’s guidelines of what is acceptable to do and/or talk about. After finding my passion in storytelling and mental health, I decided to combine the two, and here we are at Halfway2hannah.
My name is Hannah Blum. I am 27 years old, and a recent graduate of North Carolina State University. I work as a blogger for the mental health organization HealthyPlace and have experience as a mental health advocate with organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). I enjoy traveling, meeting creative people, eating carbs and writing.
Little did I know that only a few short years after walking down my high school football field waiting to be announced Homecoming Queen, I would be walking into a mental hospital waiting for a diagnosis. At the age of 19, I received a diagnosis of bipolar II. My life has been an interesting journey. If you are looking for me to say how much I hate bipolar you won’t find it here. I am never going to live without it, and I want to give others a taste of my reality. I do not place pressure on myself to be perfect. I am honest. This is the mind I have been given, and I have to treat it as a gift rather than a curse. I won’t let stigma make me feel ashamed any longer. I want to share this gift with you. Welcome to Halfway2hannah. I am so happy to have you on this journey with me.
